Technical Details
The Cisco Catalyst C9200L-48P-4X-E is a Layer 3 managed 1U rackmount switch with 48 Gigabit (10/100/1000) PoE+ ports and four fixed 1/10G SFP+ uplinks, running Cisco IOS XE with the Network Essentials license. It provides a 740 W PoE+ budget, expandable to 1,440 W with a second power supply, to power devices such as wireless access points, IP phones, and IP cameras. Its switching capacity is 176 Gbps, and its forwarding rate is 130.95 Mpps. It stacks with other Catalyst 9200L switches over Cisco StackWise-80 at 80 Gbps.
Overview
The Cisco Catalyst C9200L-48P-4X-E is a fixed-configuration, 48-port Gigabit PoE+ access switch in the Cisco Catalyst 9200L series.
The Catalyst 9200L series uses fixed uplinks, fixed redundant fans, and Cisco StackWise-80 stacking, and runs Cisco IOS XE on the Cisco UADP 2.0 Mini ASIC. With the Network Essentials license, the C9200L-48P-4X-E supports Layer 2 switching and routed access, including static routing, RIP, EIGRP stub, OSPF up to 1,000 routes, Policy-Based Routing, PIM stub multicast, VRRP, 802.1X, and MACsec-128 encryption. The C9200L-48P-4X-E is an ENERGY STAR certified model.
Cisco positions the Catalyst 9200L as the successor to the end-of-sale Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR access switches.
Best For
The Cisco C9200L-48P-4X-E suits campus and branch access-layer deployments that need PoE+ to power wireless access points, IP phones, and IP cameras, with 10G uplinks to an aggregation or core layer. Its 740 W PoE+ budget (1,440 W with a second power supply) is suitable for mixed PoE deployments; the actual device count depends on each powered device's power draw. Its four fixed 1/10G SFP+ uplinks and Network Essentials license make it suitable where 10 Gigabit uplinks and the base feature set (Layer 2 plus routed access) are sufficient.
Not suitable if:
- You need more than 48 access ports.
- You need advanced Layer 3 routing (full OSPF/EIGRP, IS-IS) or segmentation (VRF, SGT).
- You need multigigabit (mGig) access ports above 1 Gbps for Wi-Fi 6E/7 access points.
- You need 25G uplinks.
- You do not need PoE on the access ports.
