The Cisco Catalyst C9200-24PXG-A has 8 multigigabit access ports that run at up to 10G and 16 standard Gigabit Ethernet ports, for 24 access ports in total. Not all ports are multigigabit; the eight mGig ports are intended for high-throughput endpoints such as multigigabit wireless access points, while the remaining sixteen serve Gigabit endpoints. The C9200-24PXG-A has a modular uplink slot rather than fixed uplink ports. As a multigigabit PXG model it accepts the 4x 1G/10G module (C9200-NM-4X), the 2x 25G module (C9200-NM-2Y), and the 2x 40G module (C9200-NM-2Q); the 4x 1G module is supported only on the standard C9200 models, not on the PXG. The 24PXG-A has 24 access ports (8 mGig plus 16 Gigabit), a 370 W PoE budget, 352 Gbps of switching capacity, and a 261.90 Mpps forwarding rate. The 48PXG-A has 48 access ports (8 mGig plus 40 Gigabit), a 740 W PoE budget, 400 Gbps of switching capacity, and a 297.61 Mpps forwarding rate. Choose the 48-port model for a denser closet.

The two switches are identical hardware and differ only in license tier. The -E model ships with perpetual Network Essentials, which covers Layer 2 plus basic routed access such as static routing, RIP, EIGRP stub, OSPF for up to 1,000 routes, PBR, PIM stub multicast, and VRRP. The -A model ships with perpetual Network Advantage, which adds full OSPF, EIGRP, IS-IS, HSRP, VRF, VXLAN, LISP, and SGT segmentation. BGP is not included on a C9200 at either tier.
