HPE Aruba Networking CX 6200F JL724A 24-Port Data Switch with 4x 1G/10G SFP+
- Managed, Rack-mountable, 24 x 1G ports, 4 x 1/10G SFP+ uplinks, No PoE (Data Only), Layer 2
Overview
The HPE Aruba Networking CX 6200 Switch Series is a family of stackable access switches for enterprise campus and branch wired access and SMB networks, built on the HPE Aruba Networking Gen7 ASIC and the HPE Aruba Networking CX Switch Operating System. The JL724A is the 24-port data-only model of the fixed CX 6200F line, which HPE listed as the HPE Aruba Networking CX 6200F 24G 4SFP+ Switch; it has a fixed power supply and fixed fans, where the modular CX 6200M uses hot-swappable power supplies and field-replaceable fans. This A-suffix model includes a Bluetooth adapter for setup through the HPE Aruba Networking CX Mobile App and provides a USB-C console port, and HPE's QuickSpecs list its uplinks as 1/10G. Routing is Layer 2+ access routing (static and access OSPF), and the optional term-based CX Advanced Feature Pack, supported from CX-OS 10.18, unlocks visibility and advanced security use cases without adding routing.
Technical Details
The HPE Aruba Networking CX 6200F JL724A is a Layer 2+ managed 1U rackmount switch with 24 10/100/1000BASE-T ports and four fixed 1G/10G SFP+ uplinks, running AOS-CX. Switching capacity is 128 Gbps and forwarding rate is 95.2 Mpps. It carries no Power over Ethernet, so all 24 access ports are data-only. It supports Virtual Switching Framework (VSF) stacking of up to 8 members with 40 Gbps stacking bandwidth. It connects desktops, printers and wired IoT devices at the campus or branch access layer.
Best For
The JL724A suits campus and branch wiring closets that connect self-powered endpoints such as desktops, printers and wired IoT devices and need managed Layer 2+ access with basic routed connectivity. Its four 1G/10G SFP+ uplinks connect to the distribution layer, and VSF lets up to 8 CX 6200 switches be managed as one stack.
Not suitable if:
- you need to power wireless access points, IP phones or IP cameras, since this switch has no Power over Ethernet
- you need more than 24 access ports in one unit, since this model has 24
- you need BGP or multi-area OSPF, since unicast routing on this switch is limited to static routes, RIP/RIPng and single-area OSPF
- you need uplinks faster than 10G, since the four SFP+ uplinks top out at 10G
- you need 2.5G or 5G multigigabit access ports, since the access ports are 10/100/1000BASE-T
- you need redundant or hot-swappable power supplies, since this switch has a fixed power supply

FAQ
Does the HPE Aruba Networking CX 6200F JL724A support PoE?
No. The HPE Aruba Networking CX 6200F JL724A is a data-only switch: its 24 10/100/1000BASE-T access ports carry no Power over Ethernet, so it cannot power wireless access points, IP phones or IP cameras. If you need PoE+ with the same A suffix, the HPE Aruba Networking CX 6200F 24G Class4 PoE 4SFP+ 370W Switch (JL725A) delivers IEEE 802.3at PoE+ at up to 30 W per port from a 370 W budget.
What transceivers do the JL724A uplinks use?
The JL724A has four fixed SFP+ uplink ports that HPE's QuickSpecs list as 1/10G, so they take 1G SFP and 10G SFP+ optics and 10G direct-attach cables; they do not support 25G optics. One footnote restricts this: HPE lists the 10G SFP+ LRM transceiver as natively supported only on the modular CX 6200M, not on the CX 6200F. Unsupported Transceiver Mode can enable non-HPE 1G and 10G optics, but HPE does not support the transceiver or cable when that mode is used. Check the CX 6200 QuickSpecs transceiver list. Transceivers are sold separately.
How many JL724A switches can you stack?
Up to 8. The JL724A supports Virtual Switching Framework (VSF) stacking of up to 8 members in a chain or ring with 40 Gbps stacking bandwidth per the QuickSpecs, and the members are managed as a single chassis. Stacks can span up to 10 km with long-range transceivers. HPE allows 24- and 48-port fixed and modular CX 6200 models to be mixed in one stack, while the 12-port CX 6200F model has no stacking support with 24- or 48-port CX 6200F or CX 6200M switches.
How does the JL724A differ from the JL724B?
Both have 24 access ports, 128 Gbps switching and 95.2 Mpps forwarding. Differences documented by HPE include: the JL724B lists its uplinks as 100M/1G/10G and adds an RJ-45 console port, while the JL724A includes a Bluetooth adapter; the JL724A is 32.7 cm deep and weighs 4.36 kg, against 28.45 cm and 3.77 kg; the packet buffer is 8 MB against 6 MB, and 1 Gbps latency is 2.28 µs against 3.3 µs.
Does the JL724A need a license or subscription to operate?
No. The JL724A comes with the base AOS-CX feature set, including Layer 2 switching, VSF stacking and Layer 2+ routing with static routes, RIP/RIPng, single-area OSPFv2/OSPFv3 and ECMP. HPE listed an optional, term-based CX Advanced Feature Pack, supported from CX-OS 10.18, that unlocks visibility and advanced security use cases; application-based policy is one feature that requires it. The pack adds no routing capability and is not needed to operate the switch. HPE Aruba Central cloud or on-premises management was offered separately as a subscription.
Is the JL724A end of sale?
HPE has announced the end of sale of the JL724A in its 6200F End of Sale Announcement (Rev-2). The End of Sale date is June 30, 2027 worldwide excluding Europe, the Middle East and Africa, or while supplies last, and January 31, 2025 in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. End of Support Life is December 31, 2033, which HPE says will be updated to match the CX 6200F replacement's date if that is later. HPE's recommended replacement is the HPE Aruba Networking CX 6200F 24G 4SFP+ Switch (JL724B), with alternatives S0M81A (4SFP, 1G uplinks), S0M86A (4SFP+ TAA) and S0G13A (4SFP TAA), and HPE states the CX 6200F products are fully interoperable with the Aruba 6200F products.
What condition is the JL724A sold in, and what warranty applies?
The JL724A is sold new and factory-sealed. It is covered by the Network Devices Inc. 1-year warranty and a 30-day return policy.
