HPE Aruba Networking CX 6100 JL679A 12-Port PoE+ Compact Switch with 2x 1G/10G SFP+ and 2x 1GbE

Yes. The HPE Aruba Networking CX 6100 JL679A supplies IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at Class 4 Power over Ethernet on all 12 access ports, at up to 30 W per port, from a 139 W budget on its fixed 165 W power supply. Because 12 ports at 30 W would need 360 W, the 139 W budget, not the port count, decides how many devices draw full power; actual counts depend on each device's draw. It suits wireless access points, IP phones and security cameras.

The JL679A has four uplinks: two 1G/10G SFP+ ports, which automatically detect a 1G or 10G transceiver, plus two 10/100/1000BASE-T copper uplinks that take no transceiver. The SFP+ ports take 1G SFP and 10G SFP+ optics; they are 1G/10G ports, so higher-speed optics are not supported. HPE lists 1G SFP SX, LX and RJ45 transceivers, 10G SFP+ SR, LR and BiDi transceivers, and 10G SFP+ direct attach copper cables for the CX 6100. Unsupported Transceiver Mode can enable other 1G and 10G transceivers, but HPE does not support them in that mode. Transceivers are sold separately.

Yes. The JL679A supports VSF (Virtual Switching Framework) stacking of up to six members in a chain or ring topology, and the stack is managed as a single chassis. Because it is a 12-port model, it stacks only with other CX 6100 12-port switches; HPE states that VSF between the 12-port model and the 24- and 48-port models is not supported. VSF links use the 1/10G SFP fiber and copper ports, and HPE states that VSF stacking requires AOS-CX 10.16.1006 or later. HPE does not publish a VSF stacking bandwidth.

Yes. The JL679A is fanless, and HPE lists its acoustic output as 0 dB, which suits occupied, quiet rooms. HPE states that it mounts in an EIA-standard 19-inch rack or equipment cabinet with the rack-mounting kit included, on a horizontal surface or on a wall, and it has a Kensington security slot. HPE lists the X511 12-port cable guard as compatible with the JL679A only. It operates from 0 to 45 °C up to 5,000 ft, derating 1 °C per 1,000 ft above that to 10,000 ft.

Both are compact, fanless 12-port switches with IEEE 802.3at Class 4 PoE on a 139 W budget and the same 25.4 x 25.5 cm footprint. The CX 6100 JL679A has two 1G/10G SFP+ uplinks plus two 10/100/1000BASE-T uplinks, 68 Gbps switching capacity, 45.1 Mpps forwarding and VSF stacking with other 12-port CX 6100 switches. The CX 6000 R8N89A has two 1G SFP plus two 1GbE uplinks, 32 Gbps, 23.8 Mpps and no listed stacking.

The JL677A is a fan-cooled 1U switch with 24 Class 4 PoE ports, a 370 W budget on a 500 W fixed supply, four 1G/10G SFP+ uplinks, 128 Gbps and 95.2 Mpps. The JL679A is the fanless compact model with 12 Class 4 PoE ports, a 139 W budget on a 165 W supply, two SFP+ plus two 10/100/1000BASE-T uplinks, 68 Gbps and 45.1 Mpps. The two cannot share a VSF stack, because HPE does not support VSF between the 12-port and the 24- or 48-port CX 6100 models.

The JL679A is a fully managed switch. HPE lists a web GUI, an industry-standard CLI, REST APIs, HPE Aruba Networking NetEdit for configuring many switches at once (NetEdit requires its own separate software license), and cloud-based or on-premises HPE Aruba Networking Central, which is an optional management subscription. The switch software itself is embedded, with no subscription required to enable it. Routing is static IPv4 and IPv6, and the CX 6100 data sheet also lists RIPv2 and RIPng; neither document lists OSPF or BGP.
