Overview
The HPE Aruba Networking CX 6300 Switch Series is a family of stackable Layer 3 switches for enterprise network access, aggregation and core, built on HPE's Gen7 ASIC architecture and the microservices-based AOS-CX operating system, with full dynamic routing and EVPN-VXLAN support in the base software. The JL668A is the 24-port 1GbE data-only configuration of the fixed CX 6300F line, for wired endpoints that need no power from the switch. As a CX 6300F model it has a built-in, fixed power supply and fixed fans, so there are no power modules to order or replace, but also no power-supply redundancy. It can still join a VSF stack alongside modular CX 6300M switches.
Technical Details
The HPE Aruba Networking CX 6300F JL668A is a Layer 3 managed 1U rackmount switch with 24 10/100/1000BASE-T ports and 4x 1G/10G/25G/50G SFP56 uplinks, running AOS-CX. Switching capacity is 448 Gbps and the forwarding rate is 334 Mpps. It carries no Power over Ethernet, so all 24 access ports are data-only. It supports VSF stacking of up to 10 members with 200 Gbps of stacking bandwidth. It connects desktops, printers and wired IoT devices in smaller campus and branch closets.
Best For
The JL668A suits smaller campus and branch closets that connect non-powered endpoints such as desktops, printers and wired IoT devices and prefer a self-contained chassis with full Layer 3 in the base software. Four SFP56 uplinks and 10-member VSF stacking carry traffic to the distribution layer.
Not suitable if:
- you need to power wireless access points, IP phones or IP cameras, since this is a data-only switch with no Power over Ethernet
- you need redundant or field-replaceable power supplies, since the power supply is fixed and internal
- you need more than 24 access ports in one unit, since this model has 24 ports
- you need multigigabit access ports, since all ports are 10/100/1000BASE-T

Does the HPE Aruba Networking CX 6300F JL668A support PoE?
No. The HPE Aruba Networking CX 6300F JL668A is a data-only switch: its 24 10/100/1000BASE-T access ports carry no Power over Ethernet, so it cannot power wireless access points, IP phones or IP cameras. For PoE+ at the same port count in the fixed CX 6300F line, see the JL666A.
What transceivers do the uplinks on the JL668A use?
The JL668A has four SFP56 uplink ports rated 1G/10G/25G/50G. HPE's footnote states that the 50G capability is for use with 50G DACs for both interconnect and VSF stacking, and 100 Mb transceivers are not supported in any SFP56 port. The 24 access ports are RJ-45 copper and take no pluggable optics. Check optic and DAC compatibility against HPE's CX 6300 QuickSpecs transceiver list. Transceivers are sold separately.
How many JL668A switches can be stacked?
Up to 10. The JL668A supports HPE Aruba Networking Virtual Switching Framework (VSF) stacking of up to 10 members in a chain or ring, with 200 Gbps of stacking bandwidth (400 Gbps at full duplex). VSF stacking is not supported on 1G ports. HPE allows modular CX 6300M and fixed CX 6300F models in the same stack, but the Layer 2-only CX 6300L models do not stack with them. As an alternative to a stack, two switches can form a Virtual Switching Extension (VSX) cluster.
What is the difference between the JL668A and the JL664A?
Both are 24-port 10/100/1000BASE-T data-only switches with four SFP56 uplinks, VSF stacking, 448 Gbps and 334 Mpps. The JL668A is a CX 6300F with a built-in power supply, fixed fans and a 12.9 in deep chassis. The JL664A is a CX 6300M with two hot-swappable slots for the JL085A power supply (ordered separately), field-replaceable fan trays and a 15.2 in deep chassis. Choose the JL668A for a self-contained switch and the JL664A for redundant power.
