Overview
The HPE Aruba Networking CX 6300 Switch Series is a family of stackable Layer 3 switches for enterprise network access, aggregation and core, built on HPE's Gen7 ASIC architecture and the microservices-based AOS-CX operating system, with full dynamic routing and EVPN-VXLAN support in the base software. The JL664A is the 24-port 1GbE data-only configuration of the CX 6300M, for wired endpoints that need no power from the switch. As a CX 6300M model it has two rear slots for hot-swappable power supplies and field-replaceable fan trays, so power can be made redundant and serviced in place. It takes the non-PoE JL085A power supply.
Technical Details
The HPE Aruba Networking CX 6300M JL664A is a Layer 3 managed 1U rackmount switch with 24 10/100/1000BASE-T ports and 4x 1G/10G/25G/50G SFP56 uplinks, running AOS-CX. Switching capacity is 448 Gbps and the forwarding rate is 334 Mpps. It carries no Power over Ethernet, so all 24 access ports are data-only. It supports VSF stacking of up to 10 members with 200 Gbps of stacking bandwidth. It connects desktops, printers and wired IoT devices at the campus and branch access layer.
Best For
The JL664A suits smaller campus and branch closets that connect non-powered endpoints such as desktops, printers and wired IoT devices and want routed access with full Layer 3 in the base software. Four SFP56 uplinks and 10-member VSF stacking carry traffic to the distribution layer, and hot-swappable power and fan modules suit always-on wiring closets.
Not suitable if:
- you need to power wireless access points, IP phones or IP cameras, since this is a data-only switch with no Power over Ethernet
- you need multigigabit access ports, since all ports are 10/100/1000BASE-T
- you need the switch to ship ready to power on, because the power supply is ordered separately
- you need more than 10 switches in one stack, since VSF supports up to 10 members

Does the HPE Aruba Networking CX 6300M JL664A support PoE?
No. The HPE Aruba Networking CX 6300M JL664A is a data-only switch: its 24 10/100/1000BASE-T access ports carry no Power over Ethernet, so it cannot power wireless access points, IP phones or IP cameras. What transceivers do the uplinks on the JL664A use?
The JL664A has four SFP56 uplink ports rated 1G/10G/25G/50G. HPE's footnote states that the 50G capability is for use with 50G DACs for both interconnect and VSF stacking, and 100 Mb transceivers are not supported in any SFP56 port. How many JL664A switches can be stacked?
Up to 10. The JL664A supports HPE Aruba Networking Virtual Switching Framework (VSF) stacking of up to 10 members in a chain or ring, with 200 Gbps of stacking bandwidth (400 Gbps at full duplex). VSF stacking is not supported on 1G ports. HPE allows modular CX 6300M and fixed CX 6300F models in the same stack, but the Layer 2-only CX 6300L models do not stack with them. As an alternative to a stack, two switches can form a Virtual Switching Extension (VSX) cluster.
What is the difference between the JL664A and the JL662A?
Both are 24-port 10/100/1000BASE-T CX 6300M switches with four SFP56 uplinks, VSF stacking, 448 Gbps and 334 Mpps. The JL664A is data-only and takes the non-PoE JL085A power supply. The JL662A has 24 ports with PoE+ up to 30 W with a 720 W budget from two supplies, and takes the JL086A, JL087A or JL670A power supplies. Choose the JL664A when no endpoint needs power from the switch.

No. The JL664A runs AOS-CX with all base features included, among them BGP, OSPF, RIP, VRRP, PIM, VXLAN and EVPN.
