HPE Aruba Networking CX 6300M JL661A 48-Port PoE+ Switch with 4x 1G/10G/25G/50G SFP56
- Managed, Rack-mountable, 48 x 1G PoE+ ports, 4 x SFP/SFP+/SFP28/SFP56 uplinks (1/10/25/50G), PoE+ (up to 1440W), Layer 3
Overview
The HPE Aruba Networking CX 6300 Switch Series is a family of stackable Layer 3 switches for enterprise network access, aggregation and core, built on HPE's Gen7 ASIC architecture and the microservices-based AOS-CX operating system, with full dynamic routing and EVPN-VXLAN support in the base software. The JL661A is the 48-port 1GbE PoE+ configuration of the CX 6300M, sized for standard 30 W access-layer powered devices across a full 48-port closet. As a CX 6300M model it has two rear slots for hot-swappable power supplies and field-replaceable fan trays, so power can be made redundant and serviced in place. A second supply also raises the available PoE, so power can grow with the closet.
Technical Details
The HPE Aruba Networking CX 6300M JL661A is a Layer 3 managed 1U rackmount switch with 48 10/100/1000BASE-T PoE+ ports and 4x 1G/10G/25G/50G SFP56 uplinks, running AOS-CX. Switching capacity is 496 Gbps and the forwarding rate is 369 Mpps. Its PoE budget is 1440 W, enough for all 48 ports at 30 W with full redundancy from two 1600 W power supplies; single-supply budgets are lower, and no supply is included. It supports VSF stacking of up to 10 members with 200 Gbps of stacking bandwidth. It powers wireless access points, IP phones and IP cameras at the campus and branch access layer.
Best For
The JL661A suits campus and branch access floors that connect 1GbE endpoints and PoE+ powered devices at 48-port density. A 1440 W PoE budget (with two 1600 W supplies) is suitable for mixed deployments of wireless access points, IP phones and IP cameras; actual device counts depend on each powered device's power draw and on the supplies installed. Four SFP56 uplinks and 10-member VSF stacking carry traffic to the distribution layer.
Not suitable if:
- you need multigigabit access ports, since all 48 ports are 10/100/1000BASE-T
- you need more than 30 W of PoE per port, since these ports are rated PoE+ at up to 30 W
- you need the switch to ship ready to power on, because the power supplies are ordered separately
- you need more than 10 switches in one stack, since VSF supports up to 10 members

FAQ
How much PoE does the HPE Aruba Networking CX 6300M JL661A provide?
The HPE Aruba Networking CX 6300M JL661A supports IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at PoE+ up to 30 W per port on its 48 ports. With two 1600 W JL670A power supplies the budget is 1440 W, enough for all 48 ports at 30 W with full redundancy. With a single supply it is 370 W (JL086A), 740 W (JL087A) or 1400 W (JL670A). No power supply ships with the switch, and the budget is shared across all ports.
What transceivers do the uplinks on the JL661A use?
The JL661A has four SFP56 uplink ports rated 1G/10G/25G/50G. HPE's footnote states that the 50G capability is for use with 50G DACs for both interconnect and VSF stacking, and 100 Mb transceivers are not supported in any SFP56 port. The 48 access ports are RJ-45 copper and take no pluggable optics. Check optic and DAC compatibility against HPE's CX 6300 QuickSpecs transceiver list. Transceivers are sold separately.
How many JL661A switches can be stacked?
Up to 10. The JL661A supports HPE Aruba Networking Virtual Switching Framework (VSF) stacking of up to 10 members in a chain or ring, with 200 Gbps of stacking bandwidth (400 Gbps at full duplex). VSF stacking is not supported on 1G ports. HPE allows modular CX 6300M and fixed CX 6300F models in the same stack, but the Layer 2-only CX 6300L models do not stack with them. As an alternative to a stack, two switches can form a Virtual Switching Extension (VSX) cluster.
What is the difference between the JL661A and the JL665A?
Both have 48 10/100/1000BASE-T PoE+ ports at up to 30 W, four SFP56 uplinks, VSF stacking, 496 Gbps and 369 Mpps. The JL661A is a CX 6300M with two hot-swappable power-supply slots (supplies ordered separately), field-replaceable fan trays and a 1440 W budget with two 1600 W supplies. The JL665A is a CX 6300F with a fixed internal power supply, fixed fans, a 740 W budget and a shallower 12.9 in chassis. Choose the JL661A for redundant, expandable power.
Does the JL661A need a license or subscription to operate?
No. The JL661A runs AOS-CX with all base features included, among them BGP, OSPF, RIP, VRRP, PIM, VXLAN and EVPN. HPE offers an optional, term-based CX Advanced Feature Pack that adds application-based and reflexive policies, MACsec extensions for the WAN and Drop Exceptions; it adds no routing capability. HPE Aruba Networking Central is a separate, optional management subscription, and HPE states that a Central Advanced subscription also enables the Advanced Feature Pack features.
Does the JL661A come with a power supply?
No. The JL661A has two field-replaceable, hot-swappable power-supply slots, and at least one power supply is required and ordered separately. Supported supplies are the JL086A (680 W), JL087A (1050 W) and JL670A (1600 W); the PoE budget depends on the supplies installed. One of the two fan trays comes installed, and the second is ordered separately.
What condition is the JL661A sold in, and what warranty applies?
The JL661A is sold new and factory-sealed. It is covered by the Network Devices Inc. 1-year warranty and a 30-day return policy.
