Overview
The HPE Aruba Networking CX 6300 Switch Series is a family of stackable Layer 3 switches for enterprise network access, aggregation and core, built on HPE's Gen7 ASIC architecture and the microservices-based AOS-CX operating system, with full dynamic routing and EVPN-VXLAN support in the base software. The JL658A is the all-fiber CX 6300M configuration: its 24 access ports are 1G/10G SFP+ cages rather than copper, which suits it to aggregating fiber runs from access closets. As a CX 6300M model it has two rear slots for hot-swappable power supplies and field-replaceable fan trays, so power can be made redundant and serviced in place. It ships with both fan trays installed and takes the non-PoE JL085A power supply.

- you need to power wireless access points, IP phones or IP cameras, since this is a data-only switch with no Power over Ethernet
- you need copper RJ-45 access ports, since all 24 access ports are SFP+ cages
- you plan to run 10G SFP+ LR or ER optics in rooms above 40 °C (104 °F), since HPE lowers the rated operating temperature to 0 to 40 °C (32 to 104 °F) with those optics installed
- you need more than 10 switches in one stack, since VSF supports up to 10 members

Does the HPE Aruba Networking CX 6300M JL658A support PoE?
No. The HPE Aruba Networking CX 6300M JL658A has 24 1G/10G SFP+ fiber access ports and provides no Power over Ethernet, so it cannot power wireless access points, IP phones or IP cameras. It is built for fiber aggregation. For copper PoE access in the same series, the CX 6300M JL662A offers PoE+ on 24 1GbE ports and the CX 6300M JL660A offers Class 6 power on 24 HPE Smart Rate ports.
What transceivers do the uplinks on the JL658A use?
The JL658A has four SFP56 uplink ports rated 1G/10G/25G/50G. HPE's footnote states that the 50G capability is for use with 50G DACs for both interconnect and VSF stacking, and 100 Mb transceivers are not supported in any SFP56 port. The 24 access ports are SFP+ cages for 1G and 10G optics; they do not run 25G or 50G. HPE supports the J9054D 100M SFP only in those SFP+ ports on this model, and installing 10G SFP+ LR or ER optics reduces the rated operating temperature to 0 to 40 °C (32 to 104 °F) up to 5,000 ft. How many JL658A switches can be stacked?
Up to 10. The JL658A supports HPE Aruba Networking Virtual Switching Framework (VSF) stacking of up to 10 members in a chain or ring, with 200 Gbps of stacking bandwidth (400 Gbps at full duplex). VSF stacking is not supported on 1G ports. HPE allows modular CX 6300M and fixed CX 6300F models in the same stack, but the Layer 2-only CX 6300L models do not stack with them. As an alternative to a stack, two switches can form a Virtual Switching Extension (VSX) cluster.
