HPE Aruba Networking 2530 J9779A 24-Port PoE+ 10/100 Switch with 2x 1G SFP and 2x 1G RJ45
- Managed, Rack-mountable, 24 x 10/100 PoE+ ports, 2 x 1G copper + 2 x 1G SFP Uplinks, PoE+ (195 W), Layer 2
Overview
The Aruba 2530 Switch Series offers Gigabit and Fast Ethernet models for right-sized Layer 2 access in enterprises, branch offices and small and midsize businesses, managed with Aruba AirWave or Aruba Central. The J9779A is the 24-port Fast Ethernet PoE+ model, for smaller voice and camera closets that need PoE+ but not Gigabit to each device. Against the 24-port Gigabit PoE+ model it carries the same 195 W budget, but HPE limits IPv6 ACLs and Layer 4 trunk load balancing to Gigabit and 48-port models and Energy Efficient Ethernet to Gigabit models, so this model has none of the three.
Technical Details
The HPE Aruba Networking 2530 J9779A is the Aruba 2530 24 PoE+ Switch, a Layer 2 managed 1U rackmount switch with 24 Fast Ethernet (10/100) PoE+ ports and four Gigabit uplinks: two fixed 1G SFP and two 10/100/1000 RJ-45. Switching capacity is 12.8 Gbps and forwarding rate is 9.5 Mpps. The PoE+ budget is 195 W, the total available to all PoE ports from the included internal power supply, with up to 30 W per port. It powers IP phones, IP cameras and access points where 10/100 access is enough.
Best For
The J9779A suits branch and small campus closets that power up to 24 IP phones, IP cameras or access points where 10/100 access is sufficient, with Gigabit fiber or copper uplinks. A 195 W PoE+ budget is suitable for mixed deployments of these devices; actual device counts depend on each powered device's power draw.
Not suitable if:
- you need Gigabit to the endpoint, since the 24 access ports are 10/100 Fast Ethernet
- you need IPv6 ACLs or Layer 4 trunk load balancing, since HPE limits those to Gigabit and 48-port 2530 models
- you need 10G uplinks, since the four uplinks are Gigabit
- you need IP routing, since the 2530 QuickSpecs list Layer 2 switching only

FAQ
Does the HPE Aruba Networking 2530 J9779A support PoE, and how much power does it provide?
Yes. The HPE Aruba Networking 2530 J9779A provides IEEE 802.3at PoE+ on all 24 Fast Ethernet (10/100) access ports, up to 30 W per port, and also powers IEEE 802.3af and pre-standard PoE devices. Its PoE power budget is 195 W, which HPE defines as the total power budget available to all PoE ports, drawn from the included internal power supply. Because 24 ports at 30 W would exceed that budget, plan device counts from each device's actual draw.
What uplinks and transceivers does the J9779A use?
The J9779A has four Gigabit uplinks: two fixed Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports and two RJ-45 10/100/1000 ports. The SFP ports are 1G, so 10G SFP+ optics are not supported. For this model the QuickSpecs list the Aruba 1G SFP SX, LX and LH fiber transceivers, the 1G SFP RJ45 copper transceiver and the 100M SFP FX transceiver, and HPE requires SFPs of revision B or later. Transceivers are sold separately.
Are the J9779A access ports Gigabit?
No. The J9779A's 24 access ports are 10/100 Fast Ethernet; only its four uplinks run at Gigabit. HPE also limits IPv6 ACLs and Layer 4 trunk load balancing to Gigabit and 48-port 2530 models, and IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet to Gigabit models, so none of the three is available on the J9779A. If endpoints need Gigabit, the J9773A is the 2530 model with 24 Gigabit PoE+ ports.
Can the J9779A be stacked?
No. The J9779A does not stack: the Aruba 2530 QuickSpecs list no hardware stacking technology, stacking ports, stack bandwidth or member limit, so several J9779A switches cannot operate as one logical switch. The related feature HPE lists is Virtual Stacking, which provides single IP address management for up to 16 switches while each switch is still configured individually. For resilient links between switches the QuickSpecs list LACP trunking of up to eight links per trunk, IEEE 802.1s Multiple Spanning Tree and SmartLink.
What is the difference between the J9779A and the J9773A?
Both are 24-port 2530 PoE+ switches with a 195 W PoE budget. The J9779A has 24 Fast Ethernet (10/100) PoE+ ports, two 1G SFP plus two 10/100/1000 RJ-45 uplinks, 12.8 Gbps switching capacity and a 9.5 Mpps forwarding rate. The J9773A has 24 Gigabit (10/100/1000) PoE+ ports, four 1G SFP uplinks, 56 Gbps switching capacity and a 41.6 Mpps forwarding rate. Choose the J9779A where 10/100 access is enough.
How is the J9779A managed?
The J9779A is a fully managed switch. HPE lists a command-line interface, a web browser GUI, a configuration menu, SNMPv1/v2c/v3, Intelligent Management Center and out-of-band management through an RJ-45 or USB micro-B serial console port. It can also be managed on-premises with Aruba AirWave, which supports Zero-Touch Provisioning through a DHCP-based process, or from the cloud with Aruba Central.
What condition is the J9779A sold in, and what warranty applies?
The J9779A is sold new and factory-sealed. It is covered by the Network Devices Inc. 1-year warranty and a 30-day return policy.
