Technical Details
The Cisco Catalyst C9200CX-8P-2X2G-E is a Layer 3 managed compact, fanless switch with 8 Gigabit (10/100/1000) PoE+ ports, two fixed 10G SFP+ uplinks, and two fixed 1G copper uplinks, running Cisco IOS XE with the Network Essentials license. It provides a 240 W PoE+ budget from a fixed internal power supply to power devices such as wireless access points, IP phones, and IP cameras. Its switching capacity is 60 Gbps and its forwarding rate is 44.64 Mpps. The fanless chassis operates silently, which suits offices, classrooms, retail, and other space-constrained or noise-sensitive locations.
Overview
The Cisco Catalyst C9200CX-8P-2X2G-E is a compact, fanless, 8-port Gigabit PoE+ access switch in the Cisco Catalyst 9200CX series.
The Catalyst 9200CX compact models are fanless, use a fixed internal power supply, do not stack, and run Cisco IOS XE on the Cisco UADP 2.0 Mini ASIC. The C9200CX-8P-2X2G-E has two fixed 10G SFP+ uplinks and two fixed 1G copper uplinks. With the Network Essentials license, it supports Layer 2 switching and routed access, including static routing, RIP, EIGRP stub, OSPF up to 1,000 routes, Policy-Based Routing, PIM stub multicast, VRRP, 802.1X, and MACsec-128 encryption.
Cisco positions the Catalyst 9200CX as the successor to the Catalyst 2960CX and 3560CX compact switches.
Best For
The Cisco C9200CX-8P-2X2G-E suits space-constrained and noise-sensitive access-layer deployments, such as offices, classrooms, retail, and smart-building locations, that need PoE+ for a small number of wireless access points, IP phones, or IP cameras. Its fanless compact chassis runs silently and mounts on a desk, wall, DIN rail, or in a rack, while its two 10G SFP+ uplinks connect to an aggregation or core layer. Its 240 W PoE+ budget is suitable for mixed PoE deployments; actual device counts depend on each powered device's power draw.
Not suitable if:
- You need more than 8 access ports.
- You need switch stacking (the Catalyst 9200CX does not stack).
- You need advanced Layer 3 routing (full OSPF/EIGRP, IS-IS) or segmentation (VRF, SGT); on the C9200CX, BGP, PTP, and MACsec-256 also require the Network Advantage tier.
- You need multigigabit (mGig) or UPOE access ports.
- You do not need PoE on the access ports.
