The Broadcom MegaRAID 9440-8i is an eight-port internal Tri-Mode RAID controller designed to support SAS, SATA, and PCIe NVMe storage through a single adapter. Powered by the SAS3408 controller, the 9440-8i uses a PCIe 3.1 x8 host interface and provides two internal SFF-8643 connectors for direct-attached server storage configurations.

Broadcom Tri-Mode SerDes technology enables operation with NVMe, SAS, and SATA storage devices. The controller supports SAS transfer rates of 12, 6, and 3 Gb/s and SATA transfer rates of 6 and 3 Gb/s. For NVMe direct attachment, the 9440-8i supports two x4 or two x2 devices.
