Technical Details
The Cisco Catalyst C9200-24P-A is a Layer 3 managed 1U rackmount switch with 24 Gigabit (10/100/1000) PoE+ ports and modular uplinks, running Cisco IOS XE with the Network Advantage license. Uplinks are added through a field-replaceable network module that supports 1G, 10G, 25G, or 40G options. It ships with a 370 W PoE+ budget on its single power supply, which can be expanded to 740 W with a second power supply. Its switching capacity is 128 Gbps, and its forwarding rate is 95.23 Mpps. It stacks with other Catalyst 9200 switches over Cisco StackWise-160 at 160 Gbps.
Overview
The Cisco Catalyst C9200-24P-A is a modular-uplink, 24-port Gigabit PoE+ access switch in the Cisco Catalyst 9200 series. The modular Catalyst 9200 models use field-replaceable network-module uplinks, field-replaceable redundant power supplies and fans, and Cisco StackWise-160 stacking, and run Cisco IOS XE on the Cisco UADP 2.0 Mini ASIC. With the Network Advantage license, the C9200-24P-A supports the Network Essentials feature set plus full OSPF, EIGRP, IS-IS, and HSRP routing, VRF and SGT segmentation, and MACsec-128 encryption. Cisco positions the Catalyst 9200 as the successor to the end-of-sale Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR access switches.
Best For
The Cisco C9200-24P-A suits campus and branch access-layer deployments that need PoE+ for wireless access points, IP phones, and IP cameras, together with the advanced routing and segmentation of the Network Advantage license. Its modular uplinks let you choose 1G, 10G, 25G, or 40G to match the aggregation or core layer, and its 370 W PoE+ budget (740 W with a second power supply) is suitable for mixed PoE deployments; actual device counts depend on each powered device's power draw. The Network Advantage license adds full OSPF, EIGRP, IS-IS, and HSRP routing plus VRF and SGT segmentation over the base tier.
Not suitable if:
- You need more than 24 access ports.
- You only need Layer 2 plus routed access (the Network Essentials version covers that feature set).
- You need multigigabit (mGig) access ports above 1 Gbps for Wi-Fi 6E/7 access points.
- You need BGP routing (the Catalyst 9200 family does not support BGP; only the compact C9200CX does).
- You do not need PoE on the access ports.
Part Number Decode
- C9200 indicates the modular-uplink platform within the Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series.
- 24P indicates 24 Gigabit (10/100/1000) PoE+ access ports.
- -A indicates the perpetual Network Advantage license.
- The SKU has no uplink letter because the uplinks are supplied by a separate, field-replaceable network module (for example, C9200-NM-4X for four 1/10G uplinks).
